“The Church In Action: Relationship Over Duty” July 18, 2010: The Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines, D. D. There is the necessity of seeking God first, “Early in the morning, I will seek Thee.” It is getting the direction; getting the description of the task to be completed; understanding the assignment, then doing the work. The two must go together. They are not isolated nor separated. What it is saying to us is not just that the relationship is better than the servant-hood, but that the relationship must come along with the servant-hood. There has to be the understanding; there has to be the listening; there has to be the receiving of direction. This is the value of the instruction – when we hear it, will we pay attention and listen? Are we determined that we are going to change our lives that we are going to give God first place? Seek first the things which are valuable. Seek first the things which are important. Seek first the Kingdom and God will add the rest to us. (Click Read More and view the transcript of the homiliy) |

The Church In Action: Loving Our Neighbors” July 11, 2010: The Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines, D.D. We are the priest and the Levite; those who are of God’s family; those of royal priesthood. Should it not be that we are living by the royal law of love, compassion, understanding, restoration? We must begin to set the course the way God has given it to us, the way that He has played it out so that we can be strong. We can be of courage. Not being frightened because we have done good. We have been involved in the good works that He has prepared for us. Could we begin to believe that maybe that person that has stumbled and fallen, God has allowed it to happen in your understanding because He has assigned you to restore him? “The Church In Action: Commissioned With Authority” July 4, 2010: The Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines, D.D. There are three major Scriptures from the truth of God’s Word to set a course and a direction of understanding of where the Church is and what God has done for us. Matthew 25:34 says, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” The kingdom of God was that which was in the heart of God from the very beginning of time. It is not something that is yet to come, and it is not something that is still in the drawing boards. It is that which has been established, that which has been founded and equipped for the people of God. 2Timothy 3: 16-17 tells us that through His Word, we are adequately equipped for every good work. We lack in no ability. God prepares us to handle His kingdom, to handle it with abilities that cause it to shine and bring forth glory, honor, and praise to Him who has created us. Ephesians 2:10 says that God has created good works, prepared before hand that we should walk in them. He has set the course and the direction. It would help us to understand then why Jesus would say to the disciples that He was sending out, “The harvest is plenty because God Himself has prepared the harvest.” He has prepared the good work. It is not something yet to be done. It is not something waiting for something to happen. It has already been accomplished. It is up to us to understand and to know how to handle that which He has given to us so that we gain and bring forth its harvest in this life. (Click Read More to view the transcript of the homily) |

“The Church In Action: Walking in the Spirit” June 27, 2010: The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines, D. D. Scriptures says that we should be led by the Spirit and that those who are led by the Spirit are true sons of God. True, around us, there are all kinds of things that draw our attention, things that pull us aside, and things that tend to cause us to forget what God has given to us. The Spirit is there to remind us. The Spirit will teach us all that the Father has given to us and all that the Son has said. He will remind us if we will give Him that opportunity, if we give Him that space in our lives. It is a matter of setting the course and the direction in such a manner that we are not easily distracted by other things. The Spirit will not work in a void. The Spirit must have something to work with. It works when we spend time knowing God – reading His Word, listening to the Word, praying, worshipping, and fellowshipping with the leaders. This gives the Spirit the potential to work because we are feeding ourselves that which is of God.

The Church In Action: Confessing the Christ of God” June 20, 2010: The Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Bishop Ricardo M. Alcaraz
How we see Christ will determine how we will follow Him. It is not our views that shape who our God is – whether we have a clear idea of who God is or not. Whether we believe what He says He is through His holy Word and how He has shown Himself through His people doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t shape God. God is God. Before we were created, God was already there. What we need to do is to be able to see Him, with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the Sacraments that we are receiving from Him. We are to see Him in His perspective. We develop a vision of who God is, and the kind of vision that we develop in our hearts of who God is will determine whether we will follow Him or not. If we do decide to follow Him, it will determine how we will follow Him. (Click Read More to view the transcript of the homily) |

“The Church In Action: Forgiven by Faith” June 13, 2010: The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Archbishop Loren Thomas Hines D. D. One of the most primary things that we can live out in the world around us is our forgiveness. We’ve been forgiven of our sin. Christ lives within us; the Spirit lives within us. We have become sacred and holy because of His work. It should set in our hearts and in our minds an attitude of looking not for judgment, but looking to aid and to help; looking to under gird, to lift up, to bless, and not to put down. This should be the attitude and the change that takes place. We’re not like the world condemning, judging, and destroying. But in the very heartbeat of the Father, the blood covering of the Son, we are desiring and wanting to build; to bring hope and restoration to others.
