God’s Chosen Servants for His Servants

In the early days of the Old Testament, there was a kid who assisted Eli whose name was Samuel. In the present day, we name him as the first Acolyte who assisted the priest. Yes, being an Acolyte is a ministry.  It is not just a ministry but God’s ministry.  It is the group of people whom God chose to be the servants of His priests (Sons of Aaron).

1 Chronicles 23:28, “For their office is to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts and in the chambers and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God.” As we meditate upon this Scripture, it pictures out the purpose of the Acolyte.  This Ministry is really active as bees in relation to assisting priests.  It is not to show who they are but to show who their God is.

This Ministry is a complicated work.  For some, it is not just complicated but harsh.  Yes, it is; but for those who have a heart of being God’s servant, complicated and harsh are not part of their vocabulary because they take on every work with passion, heart and especially with joy. Each fellow member of this Ministry never looks at it as a challenge but a privilege.

Acolyte is not just what we call servants, but also worship leaders for they are the ones who bring the whole congregation to worship.  The Acolyte’s job is not just to accomplish the task inside the Church but with their hearts and minds consumed with the Word of God, they carry it out to the people outside the Church.

There are so many things that the Acolyte can do – for God has given them talents to do such things. Some people may not see what an Acolyte really is, but once you get to know the Ministry, you will find out that each member has a talent of being sensitive in surroundings, being observant in everything, being obedient in every command of the leader, and being careful in the things they work with.  This is the way they handle and keep the altar to maintain the radiance of the glorious King.

An Acolyte will not remain as an Acolyte because this Ministry is a training ground for their future.  What do you think their future will be?  After some years of training, they will be the future deacons, priests, and even bishops. This Ministry is a training ground to build them up for God’s higher calling.  It is not just for that, but also for facing the world with its sinful surroundings and to withstand each temptation that will make them turn their back and walk away from God.

This Ministry, identical to the Church, never accomplishes each appointed work as individual members but as ONE for God’s glory!
