Manners of the Heart – February 4, 2012 Ladies’ Fellowship

The Cathedral of the King Ladies gathered for “Manners of the Heart”, the first Ladies’ Fellowship of the year 2012 at the Jorvina Hall last February 4.  Sister Chat Jandayan began the event with a prayer, followed by an introduction of the speaker, Sister Mia Santos.

Sister Mia talked about manifesting God’s excellence through our very thoughts, words, and actions.  Being God’s image and likeness, or His exact replica, we should strive and pursue to do what’s right.  In a more practical manner, she shared about manners as an “outward expression of a person’s inner character”.   We all have our own habits and mannerisms but as ambassadors for Christ, “it should be our mannerism to manifest God’s character”.  This includes always having something uplifting to say, doing everything without complaining, and always seeing the good in others.  Matched with quotable quotes from respected personalities and passages from Scripture, Sister Mia’s sharing was definitely more than encouraging.

 The very charming Josephine Thurman then imparted a lovely poem called, “Table Rules for Little Folks” by Eliza R. Snowsmith.   She caught everyone’s attention with her adorable actions and the timely message of the poem.  It was definitely not just a reminder for “little folks”, but for grown-ups as well.

Sister Malette Gatan then moved on to the recognition of the ladies’ workers who have shown exemplary deeds in the Church for the past year.  Sister Nancy Echevarria was noted for her untiring effort in keeping the ladies’ restrooms clean and tidy—and even accomplishing her task with a cheerful heart.  Sister May Elseario’s heart for ministry was also recognized, proving that even with much responsibility given to her outside the Church, she can still responsibly fulfill her tasks in Church, specifically in the teaching ministry.  Sister Gemma Zacarias, a registered nurse, was also noted for her ministry to the Birthing Clinic.  The recognition given to the three ladies served as an encouragement to all COTK ladies to continue doing and fulfilling the tasks given to them in excellence.

The ladies then broke down into 5 groups as a follow-on activity.  Each group was given a scenario wherein good manners can be applied and practiced, and to be presented through a short skit.  All the ladies enjoyed watching other ladies display their acting abilities and learning from the skits at the same time.

Feasting followed and as usual, all the ladies had a grand time fellowshipping with one another.  It was also a chance for the ladies to apply the “Manners of the Heart” as they gathered to nourish themselves physically, socially, and spiritually.
